New HP computers with Vista come with Yahoo search windows all over the place, and I don't want any of them. I used Add/Remove to uninstall Yahoo but still have a little search window in the most annoying place (see question), where there's no real estate to waste. I found the folder yahoo\common with program Unyt.
Exe, and Internet queries say it is for uninstalling the "Yahoo toolbar. " However, it refuses to run because it's looking for a "logfile" that evidently got wiped out in the Add/Remove process. There must be a way to manage the taskbar when an icon does not offer an exit-type option, but all of my searches seem to end in the advice to right-click the icon and choose "exit" or equivalent--not offered by Yahoo!

I think this is the solution I don't have an HP system, but I found this which seems to speak to your problem:The yahoo search feature is actually part of something called "HP Adviser". To remove, you have to right click on the taskbar, select toolbars, and select HP Adviser. See if that does it.
You may also consider uninstalling HP Adviser altogether from Control Panel. If not, you may want to take a look at this kind of techie post which also mentions uninstalling HP Adviser:forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/60... think that should solve your problem, but if not just say so and we'll keep looking. Good luck!

Kill the process I would recommend killing the process. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del On the Windows Security Screen, select Task Manager In task manager, select the processes tab Look for Unyt. Exe in the image name column and select it Press the End Process button A problem you may encounter with this would be the process not being named Unyt.exe.
In this case, you would need to determine which process is the one you want to kill. You can try using Process Explorer. Process explorer is very similar to windows task manager, but it shows more information about each process.
You can get process explorer here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx Sources: personal experience .
Msconfig Well I really have no experience with this particular issue. My only advice is to try to run the msconfig tool (start -> run "msconfig") to modify startup items. Find the yahoo toolbar item and disable it.
Restart to see if it works.
Kill it by hand or disable the service Find out where the actual . Exe file is installed and delete the file and any others with it. You may have some abandoned registry entries, but they won't hurt your computer.
(Really, that's all that uninstallers do is go through a list of registry settings and files and deletes them or occasionally sets them to a default. ) Delete that little punk, and if you are using IE, go Tools --> Manage Add-Ons and make sure that the Yahoo Toolbar is not in the list. The only downside to this is that you may receive error messages about "Windows cannot find..." when trying to do a search.
I'm not sure exactly where the setting is to set the default search program is in Vista, but the error message will probably get you there. (And I'm sure Google knows. ) OR This thing probably runs as a Windows Service.
If you go to your Services Manager (it used to be in Administrative Tools, but w/ Vista I'm not sure) and sort by name, you'll probably see one that says something about Yahoo. Double click on it, and set the Start-up option to disabled and click 'Stop'. That will also take care of it.

I need to learn Vista; and I am very interested to see... the answers to this one. Yahoo had become more invasive than IE Browser and more difficult to keep it out once you finally got rid of it in Windows XP. The basic system has been distributed with "Yahoo!
Toolbar", as well as "Google Toolbar" and others in the name of 'equal treatment' for some time now and to remove it from my XP system took a lot of searching and trial and error before I found most of the offensive "in my face" occurrences of it. I still find remnants of it! A lot of it was at the system level where I waded deep into the file structure to remove the 'pest'.
If I don't watch new installations from boxed programs and downloaded programs very closely to tell the installer, "NO I DO NOT WANT YAHOO! ", I find that I am once again removing occurrences of Yahoo! Toolbar... :-| I am sorry that I have not updated to Windows Vista yet to be able to help with this answer better.

The Volume and Network icons have disappeared from my Taskbar, and cannot be reenabled from the notification area menu.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
