How do I get rid of ants in my house - kitchen sink & cabinets?

This worked for me... orangiebee-- I had this problem occasionally at my old house. The ants weren’t there all the time--just ususally when it was wet outside, and they only appeared in the kitchen. I read somewhere that ants don’t like mint and since I didn’t want to use insecticides in the kitchen, thought I’d give it a try.

These ants appeared to be coming in between the kitchen cabinet and the wall, so I did a little experiment. I didn’t have any dried mint in the cupboard at the time, but did have peppermint extract. I poured some on a paper towel and wiped the edge of the counter near the wall and then watched the ants.

Sure enough, they refused to cross the area where the extract was! Instead, they went around to the area that didn’t have any extract. So, I went out and bought some dried mint and liberally sprinkled it in the crack between the wall and cabinet.

I also rubbed the peppermint extract on the counter along the wall, all the way up to the backsplash. The ants went away. Yay!

I hope this helps you. Good luck! Sources: Personal experience..

Cloves and bay leaves Find out where they're coming in and sprinkle ground cloves and/or crushed bay leaves in the area. Ants absolutely can't stand cloves and I hear they feel the same about bay leaves, they will run screaming (listen hard, they have tiny mouths). Of course, once you do this those industrious little fartknockers are going to find another entrance so make sure you find out where they live outside and poison them in to oblivion.

This is the only thing that worked for us when we were invaded by sugar ants one year.

I have a Good answer for You. You will have to do some work for Yourself. First, take take everything out from under Your kitchen sink.

Wash everything very well with some sort of good cleaning solution, including the items You put back under there in case food or something they like has been spilled on them. Then using "Raid" Ant killer in a spray container - spray around where the pipes come up out of the floor or wall. Then put everything back in the cabinet.

Spray along the floor line all the way around this area, including near Your refrig. In the case of Your shelves, take everything out. Wash the shelves.

Clean the bottles and other items. Put everything back in. Next, spray the bottoms of any door casings that may be in Your kitchen area, and also any window casings.

Spray anywhere else that may be a point of ingress for ants. Then do downstairs (if You have a room under Your kitchen). Look for the pipes going up to Your sink.

Spray this area if the pipes are exposed. Then trace the pipes to wherever they connect to other machinery. Spray if necessary.

If You have a drop-down ceiling, move a few panels near Your problem area. Get up in there and spray that area too. If any pipes go out through Your basement foundation - spray there as well.

Next go outside and see if You can find where the ants are getting in. Spray. If Your house has no foundation that You can get into, then You'll have to hire a professional exterminator to come and spray Your foundation.

If You have any small cracks or holes in Your house's foundation or the siding of the house - fill them. A hardware store can help You there. The end result of all of this is that You must keep Your house cleaner than You have been doing.

Spray floor areas from time to time, and make sure You wash Your floors more often. The problem will then go away. Just don't get sloopy again, or they'll come back.

Good luck. Sources: Years of hands-on experience in different homes I've owned.

Find the source they usually come from the outside of your house or apartment and climb in that way. Then they breed. Get outside ant traps and put them around your house by the kitchen area.

Look for any damp or standing areas of water. They usually are around there. Get a good spray for under the kitchen sink and ant traps for your cabinets.

This way you don't have to get rid of anything in your cabinets. This is usually seasonal, spring and fall but if you're in a moderate area it could continue for a long time. Every 30 days you must replace the traps and respray under the sink.

Also get a good ant pesticide and spray around the house every 30 days.

Ants.......... Try to never leave plates in the sink with food on them. This will just draw them out. I get ants every spring.

The product that seems to work the best for me is the Raid Ants trap/motel things that kill the queen. When we put these out they reduce the amount of ants dramatically! We also change them every 4 weeks or so.

I will spray Raid but only around the outside of my house. Never inside-the smell grosses me out. These Ant traps do work for me.
