The rule of thumb I learned was dark/medimu/light; so, if your cabinets are clear-stained maple (light), and your countertops are medium, go with a darker floor, like a hardwood or wood laminate or even a dark tile, since the countertops and floor are separated bythe lower cabinets. However, if your countertops are also fairly light (and especially if your appliances are also light), don't go TOO dark on the floor. If you have a granite or other countertop with multiple shades, try choosing a flooring that pulls one or a couple of these colors in without exactly matching it.
Also, be aware of other furniture, such as your dining nook set or adjacent room -- but most maple shades go great with either brown/tan tones or grey tones!
You might try Ash, which will be lighter, or something much darker, like an oak.
Depends, of course, upon the color/shade of stain you've applied to your maple cabinets. Depends also upon, whether you think you're likely to keep your maple cabinets forever! (Are they new?) We just redid our kitchen in one fell swoop (lots of camping out in the rest of the house, coffee maker in the bathroom, and like that...) and put in hand-made maple-stained, distressed alder cabinets through the kitchen.
Along with a Brazilian granite counter. My favorite arm and one leg from each of us. We finally chose terrazzo stone for the kitchen floor because (1) easier to clean (2) couldn't find wood to match the cabinets (3) wanted to be able to swap out the cabinets some day.
Try making the floors dark walnut for stain, or the opposite and go yellow pine.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
