The top and backing are relatively simple, because you can use old clothes as well as new fabric. The bigger issue is what to use for the inside - not all quilts have a filling, but most do. Here are some possibilities to look for: actual quilt batting, flannel sheet, or an old washable blanket.
Decide how big you want your finished quilt to be. Your backing and filling have to be at least a couple of inches larger in each direction than that. Cut your top piece 1/2" bigger than desired final size.
The simplest possible construction is a solid piece on top and another on the back, a 'quick turn' assembly, then finish it by tying with crochet cotton, embroidery floss, or yarn. To layer your quilt, smooth out your filling/batting on a table or the floor, depending on size. Next, smooth your backing right-side-UP and centered onto the filling.
Now spread your top right-side-DOWN and centered on the backing. Pin-baste around the edges, leaving approx. 6" open for turning.
Sew 1/4" inside ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
