Two options First off, we're not Amazon Customer Service reps, so nothing said here is official. But try the following. Did someone give you a hardcopy certificate or is it credited to your Gift Certificate Balance?

If it's in your balance already (check by going to Your Account, View gift certificate balance) then go ahead and make a purchase and it should be credited automatically to that purchase. If it's not in your balance, try to apply it using the "Apply a gift certificate to your account" from the Your Account page. If it's refusing to accept it (which I'm guessing is the case based on this question), then your only option is to contact customer service directly, tell them you're in CA where gift certificates don't expire, and have them apply it to your online Gift Certificate Balance.

They shouldn't give you a hassle. Again, I'm not an Amazon rep, just trying to help. Good luck!
