How do lawyers live with themselves defending criminals?

Because justice means there must be a fair compensation and punishment for damages. A defendant's lawyer makes sure that such punishment and compensation are not excessive. In a real life case I know a woman who had bumped into another car after it slammed on its brakes.

The other car didn't stop until much further ahead so she thought it was ok to just keep driving. She got charged with a hit and run which could have lead to several days in jail and several thousand dollars in fines. She decided to appoint a lawyer who negotiated with the district attorney and was able to lower her fines and cancel the jail time.

It's not that the outcome was unjust. Without the lawyer and the DA getting together the only thing that the DA would have thought was that the lady is a reckless driving criminal. But the Lawyer presented facts so that the DA could understand that she wasn't trying to disobey the law.

Everyone has a right to be defended by counsel But any given lawyer also has a right to reject a case if they can't faithfully defend it, especially those in private practice. The reason a lot of poor people go to jail is because they have to use public defenders, who are charged with defending whatever's left and generally don't have the resources to do anything much with the cases they get.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
