Mardi Gras doubloons make good keepsakes from parades past. If your basement has sprung a leak or flood waters have risen unexpectedly, you might be left with muddy, dirty doubloons. Most doubloons are made of plastic and can be cleaned easily.
You do not have to toss away your Mardi Gras souvenirs--just clean them. After you have cleaned and restored your doubloons, store them in an air-tight plastic container to keep them safe from future damage. Fill a sink about halfway with warm water.
As the water is running, add a tablespoon of gentle baby shampoo. Put on rubber gloves to protect your skin from any germs that might be on the muddy doubloons. Scoop up the doubloons with your gloved hands, and place them gently into the sink.
Move the doubloons around the sink as you place them in the water. If you have a large batch of doubloons to clean, wash them in batches. Turn off the water, and use your gloved hands to move the coins around the warm water.
Let the coins sit in the warm ... more.
