How do you connect a VCR / DVD combo to a coax cable when there is no coax cable on the back of the VCR / DVD comb?

How do you connect a VCR / DVD combo to a coax cable when there is no coax cable on the back of the VCR / DVD comb. We do not have a satelite box or a cable box, just the coax cable coming into the house. How do I connect the coax cable to the VCR combo unit that does not have the coax connection. It just has the red yellow and white cable connections on the back.

We want to be able to record while watching something different at the same time. I know how to connect it upto the TV and everything else, just having problems figuring out how to convert the coax cable to something I can use. Your combo does not have a TV tuner. If your DVD/VCR does not have a coaxial cable input, it does not have a TV tuner. So naturally, there is no way to directly connect the cable to the combo so you can record shows.

And, TVs usually don't have video output. The simple solution will be to buy a TV tuner. Given the current state of TV broadcasting, you'd better get a digital tuner, and even better, a HDTV tuner.

Or go get a cable or satellite box with paid service. After you connect the coaxial cable to the tuner, use the video output from the tuner to connect to your DVD/VCR combo's video input, most likely either S-video or composite video. If you want to watch and record different channels, you need 2 tuners.

You can split the coaxial cable, one goes to the TV which has a tuner already, the other one goes to the external tuner (or cable/satellite box) you would get, then to the combo. You can then hook up output from the combo to the TV. If you have more questions, we can discuss it on the discussion board..

You can't hook up cable directly It sounds like you've got a recent combo DVD/VCR that's lacking a tuner. These were made to be cheaper, since the digital tuners that are required in devices now cost a bit to add in until recently, and they couldn't ship them with analog-only tuners. The best bet would be to see if the unit can control a cable box using an IR eye.

The owner's manual should indicate if this is possible. You'll need the cable box to output the composite video signal that the DVD/VCR needs. However, this would not let you record from one channel and watch another.

There's probably no way to do this with the unit you've bought, but if you had two cable boxes, you could hook them both up, with one going directly into the TV and the other going to the VCR/DVD recorder.

2 You are not recording programs "from" the TV. If you are getting a DVD/VCR recorder combo with a digital tuner, it is pretty much like using a VCR with analog tuner - your recorder can record digital channels from the bulit in turner in the combo, and you can do recording by programming the date, time and channel. To watch a different channel on your TV while you are recording another Channel in your recorder, you need to split the coaxial cable TV cable, one goes into the combo, and one goes into the TV directly.

You will connect your combo to your TV using HDMI, most likely. To receive HDTV programs through the signal sent by the cable company, your tuners (in TV or the combo) need to have QAM. And it may be worth renting cablecards for convenience.By the way, the HD programs will be downgraded before being recorded into DVD or VCR.

Recorders also may downgrade the TV signals first, then upscale it again to HD via HDMI, making the TV programs coming out of the recorder's HDMI output not REAL HD. Read the manual to find out what your recorder is actually doing. It the recorder allows signal pass-through, you can connect the recorder's coaxial tv out to the TV's antenna input. So when your recorder is off, you are using your TV's tuner to watch TV programs.

Of course, you watch DVD or VCR programs through the HDMI input of the TV. You can't watch a different TV channel while recording this way though, most TVs only have 1 antenna/cable in. Digital and HD enhance our viewing experience, but complicate matters to a good deal.

Well, at least for now.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
