In order surf the internet without paying for a data plan on your Blackberry Curve 8310, you must first set up your TCP settings. In the Blackberry menu go to-->Options - Advanced Options - TCP and enter your APN information for your GSM Service. After completing the settings on your Curve 8310, I suggest you download the Opera Browser.
Once you have the browser completely installed, go to the menu and select automatic network set-up.

I have activated, registered my SIM ready for data access. I don't really need push email. I just want to surf the web and download apps.
