I feel that the members of the House of Representatives, with their new majority, are doing what they were elected to do, stop the Obama administration from ramming through laws and policies that the American people do not want. It's the American way. First one side gets power and then the other, and each has their turn to see how much progress they can make toward their goals while they are in power, and how much they can hang on to when they are not.In these particular cases, it is mostly symbolic, since the Democrats still hold the Senate and the Whitehouse, but it send a message to both the Democrats and the Republican constituants that the Republicans are indeed serious and will do just what they said they would do: vote to stop the obmama administration and it's idea of progress, and hopefully begin to replace it with solutions that take us in a direction that more people approve.
If not, there's always another election just around the corner. Perhaps these votes, and the reason the represenatatives casting them even got elected, will send a message to those lawmakers who are not inclined to listen to their constituents. We can always hope so.
I'm not too thrilled about it. As a person with disabilities who also works with persons with disabilities, I can tell you that if I hadn't had what is most likely an easy minimum of $1,000,000 in health-care (yes, one million) over the last 10 years, I wouldn't be typing this note. I've had to learn to walk and speak again and I kept getting sick again.
Not because the doctors weren't good--I have arguably the best in town (if my doctor can be the consultant to MLB, NHL and NFL, he's good enough for me)--but because there is an underlying condition which required surgery seven times and now, three years later, needs it again. I've had wrong diagnoses. There have been times where I've sought second, third and even fourth opinions for a rare condition.
I've had no less than 5 surgeons across the country concur on a course of treatment. I've almost bought the farm about 3 or 4 times. I've laid on my kitchen floor unconscious, unable to breathe.
I've laid in my living room, unconscious and lifeless. I've spent an entire night in an emergency room being worked on, only to have to be scraped up off the sidewalk by hospital staff only ten minutes after they discharged me. It is terrifying.
And the thought that ANY health care (including hospitals, doctors, surgery and outpatient AND inpatient rehabilitation) would be given to and then a month later taken away from anyone in the country in my position is exactly as terrifying. Clean air? Of course, we need it--and we need to move to solar and wind power, too, but it's not my expertise.
I predict that if health care reform is repealed, the economy will tank again More families will lose assets to care for someone who's in this condition. ( I may be a pretty magazine cover face in an ICU, but that's really me and it was not staged--I really was a patient in that intensive Care Unit when the photo was taken).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
