How do you remove blue sharpie from a wooden table?

One of our dumb*** friends wrote on a sheet of paper with a blue sharpie...on our kitchen table! Now there are bunches of little blue dots at the points where the ink bled through. Our table is a soft light colored wood with clear finish... a laquer or poly or something.

Any ideas how to remove this without refinishing the table? Asked by miller508 47 months ago Similar questions: remove blue sharpie wooden table Home > Home Improvement.

Several solutions here - hope one of them works! I used pencil eraser on green permanent marker on a light pine wooden table -- had to use elbow grease in some spots but it came out - I was amazed! Saved the day!

I used rubbing alcohol to remove black sharpie from my daughters WHITE pottery barn bed. It really works. I have tried hairspray, magic erasers, polish remover and the alcohol was the only thing that would touch it.It didn't even take the white off!

My daughter used perm marker on my new kitchen table. I thought it was ruined. I tried the pencil eraser and it didn't work so I used rubbing alcohol.

It worked great. A million thanks! Lysol did the trick, after we tried goo gone, and simple green.

WOW, simply amazing. I just used a regular pencil eraser and it worked like a dream on my oak cabinets. My 18 month old drew all over my brand new bedroom set with a sharpie. I used Awesome.

It worked on finished wood but not on the unfinished.(Note from answerer: You can buy Awesome cleaner at the dollar stores). I was babysitting once and one of the kids was coloring with a sharpie marker and got it all over their wooden furniture. All I had to do was get a pencil eraser and rub it on the spots where there was marker and it came right out.

I advise you to use this because I know you won't regret it! I had to remove a not so flattering autograph from a silver fine tip permanent marker on a MLB bat, so my buddy could resign it w/ a more appropriate silver sharpie. Nail Polish remover couldn't do it, but the good old Mr. Cleam Magic Eraser worked like a charm, Kudos Mr. Clean!

Sharpie markers.... Well, I can tell you that Sharpie fades out in the sunlight....eventually.....If you try to catch it right away, you can sometimes wipe it out...but it might be too late for that in your case. I love the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. They are great for getting all kinds of things out.

Try it first on the table, as it's the least likely thing to do any damage. Just dampen the sponge and rub the ink stains. I would try a bit of rubbing alcohol next.

Apply it on a rag; don't pour it directly on the table. Gently rub it, and see if it starts taking it out. The alcohol could also eat the finish on the table, so use a light touch.

Here is what I found on Wikipedia: "Though Sharpie ink will become permanent after setting, it can be easily erased for several hours after writing on many glossy surfaces, most readily smooth metal and glass. Since the ink is based on propanol, butanol and diacetone alcohols, rubbing alcohol will remove permanent ink writing. Sharpie ink can generally be erased from CDs, microscope slides and plastic bottles within several hours.

Sharpie ink that has dried for more than several hours can be removed with acetone, but due to the power of the solvent, acetone may damage the surface material. On some surfaces, the ink can be removed by coloring over the ink with a dry erase marker and then removing the Sharpie ink and dry erase marker ink with a dry cloth. Steam cleaning has proved effective also.

Magic Eraser has also proven somewhat effective on hard surfaces such as brick and very effective on wood furniture. Hairspray will also remove from smooth surfaces. WD-40 works on piano keys."

Regarding removing it from the skin--it might work on your wood, too: "Some products that can be used to remove ink from the skin are rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, sunscreen lotion, shaving cream, and facial cleaning pads. Tabasco sauce is also particularly effective at removing the ink from skin. However, the ink wears off on its own within a day or so, since the ink is on skin cells that are constantly being shed."

1 I heard bashing the offenders face into the table works...or at least it makes you feel a little better.Seriously...with a soft porous wood if it got through the finish it is likely you will not be able to get it out without refinishing.

2 ...however, by following ChicagoTRS's suggestion, you now have a bloodstain that will make make that blue Sharpie much less noticable! .

3 Try 0000 steel wool. If you're lucky, the stains will come out and the table will retain its shine. This user has been banned from Askville.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
