Choose a tie with medium-weight to heavyweight fabric. Better quality ties work better because they drape well. Put the tie around your neck with the narrow end on your right side.

The seam should be down. The wide end of the tie should be hanging about 12 inches longer than the narrow end. Loosely grasp the narrow end with your left hand.

Cross the wide end in front of the narrow end. Loop the wide end around the right side of the narrow tail, and then come behind it. At this point the seam of the wide end of the tie should be facing out.
