The greatest lesson to be learned from The Patchwork Quilt can't be taught, just lived. However, there are some good teachable concepts that can be gleaned from this award winning book. Read The Patchwork Quilt with your children/students.
Take the quartered poster board and label each section with a season. Add images of events from the story to each of the quarters. For example: spring-a fence being built, summer-pants hung out on the line, autumn/fall-an African princess' robe, and winter-Christmas.
Write the months in the appropriate squares of the poster board. Take your calendar (a colorful one works best)and go through each month and talk about important dates in your family and where they would fall on the calendar and poster board. Define the word persistence.
Use Tanya as an example of persistence. Make sure that you point out that the quilt was not made over night and that most of the time good things take a long time to make! More.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
