When the pelvis is tilted forward in an anterior pelvic tilt, the abdominal muscles become lengthened, especially the obliques (pair of abdominal muscles responsible for rotation and flexion of the spine) and transversus abdominus (an important spinal stabilizing muscle). This compromises their ability to stabilize the spine. There are varying degrees of anterior pelvic tilt, and it differs from person to person.
But a more severe tilt causes the abdominal muscles to lose their ability to stabilize the spine due to their excessive length. Correcting anterior pelvic tilt is necessary to allow the abdominals to stabilize the spine.
