How far can a horse travel in one day?

...and food. Sure they can. And have.

This country was built from coast to coast on the backs of horses.

I do distance riding. Horse can travel at about a constant 7mph on average over challenging natural terrain. This means that much of the time they are doing 9mph trotting, 15-20mph cantering stretches, walking when they must becasue of trail conditions, and snack and water breaks.

Horses in top shape can do this all day. A 100mile race classically starts at 4AM and finishes at about midnight (approx 20hours or 5mph average). That's because the vets demand that horses take several hour long breaks or holds so they can be checked for ability to continue and have a good rest.

I saw a news story during the gas shortage where a high school student rode her horse to school (20 miles one way) because of gas prices. The filmed her studying and reading her books while riding along a road with cars whizzing by. They don't pay me enough to do that....

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
