Don't worry about the fact that they are paying you minimum wage for a job that clearly should be paying you so much more. Don't worry about doing it on your own time either. Just work the help desk and do as much of the project as you can in the hours you are suppose to work.

Then keep on the project until you hit a snag then look for help. Here's what I did: I write children's books but can't draw to save my life. An illustrator was too expensive.

I used graphics. I live in a small town but have a fairly large hospital down the street. I called the hospital and found out the name of the man in charge of putting together the newsletter, the signs, the advertising for the hospital and called him.

I was absolutely delighted when he agreed to see me. I took my book down there (I now have 2 copyrighted books) and showed it to him and he actually asked me how I did one of the effects on some of the text in the book. But anyway, he helped me, advised me, gave me feedback.

I think people like to help and it makes them feel good when they can. When you run into a snag, call someone professional and ask for a meeting. Explain why you are doing this project.

At the end of your meeting, or maybe you only need a phone call, ask if you may call him/her again for a few minutes if you run into another snag. When I wanted to sell my book I looked up on the Ohio Dept of Educ website and found a man who got the state contract for distributing books (my books are educational) and I called him and asked him what I had to do to get my books on his shelf. He not only told me but he told me if I had any other questions to feel free to call him.

He took me under his wing. I had an idea to put a pizza coupon in my books because then that would help me with finances if the pizza company paid me to put a coupon in my book and since I was printing my own books, it seemed like something I could do. I called the headquarters and talked to a major marketing person about this.

Although that didn't pan out, she gave me a ton of info. We talked for over an hour and she said to call back whenever I had a question. I also called Barnes and Noble bookstore and talked to one of their buyers.

These people were all more than willing to talk to me. It's kinda an ego boost to them also. Be brave!

Don't get discouraged if you find someone who does not want to help you. You will find many who will help you. Then, when you are almost done, tell your boss that you expect a huge increasein pay and maybe even a permanent position in another dept.

One of my relatives works for a huge company doing graphic design. He is so good that he turned down a $40,000 job doing a web site for a non-profit organ because he didn't have time to do it. Learn this stuff and go get a huge paying job.

It's like winning American Idol and being bolstered to the top because they took advantage of opportunity.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
