The new health care bill will not have immediate effects on the overall costs of individual healthcare for most people in the United States. Most of the bill’s provisions do not take effect until the 2014. The changes that have already taken place are: the continued coverage of children on their parent’s insurance until the age of 26.
The plan does give coverage to some of the thousands of uninsured people in the country. As far as affordability, the bill does not lower the cost of insurance premiums for many insured workers and employers. Most insurance companies such as Cigna Health, and Aetna, Blue Cross of California raised its premiums before the bill’s rate cap provision takes effect in 2014.
