Since most Americans are against it, I think he would be taking a big chance. The site below shows all the known polls, and it averages out to 51.4 oppose, to 38.8 against. Most Americans, about 85% are happy with the existing system, but it just needs some tweaking.
Tart reform, existing conditions reform, and be able to buy across state lines. This idea that they have to destroy what works, to make something we are not sure will work, makes no sense to most people. Most Americans know whatever the gov touches, usually gets screwed up.
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are all losing money and going bankrupt.
Obama promised he would never walk away from healthcare reform and I believe him. He did reach out to Republicans to try to amend the current bill, but the Republicans refuse to deal with that bill. They want to start over.
So, Obama is willing to amend the current bill but refuses to scrap it and so there is a standoff. If the Republicans keep refusing to compromise and obstruct Obama, he will clean the bill up a little and try any way he can to pass healthcare reform. It will only be suicide if the bill fails to accomplish any reform and makes matters worse.
On the other hand, if the bill works and makes the world better, he'll easily get another term. Especially if the bill handles the chronic unemployment that results from high healthcare costs employers have to pay. The smart thing the Republicans can do is work with Obama to get some protections that they like included in the bill.
Because I believe Obama will get reform passed before the elections even if he has to call congress back from their summer break.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
