I'd say about half I get most of my vegetables from a Community Supported Agriculture: a farmer drops off vegetables every week. That's all year long, though I supplement it with things from the grocery store grown in Chile or China when I need something special. I also get my eggs from them.

I get most of my meat from a local farm. But I eat out several times a week, and they get their food from God knows where. Also, all of the things that go into my food besides meat and vegetables comes from elsewhere.

Sadly, not much And what there is, is mostly very seasonal. The Boston area has pretty good farmers markets, but are limited in number. The growing season here isn't all that long, as well, but it is possible to get some locally grown fruits and vegetables for six months of the year.

I can buy local milk in a few grocery stores, but most of it comes in glass bottles, so in addition to the higher cost of the milk, there's the hassle of returning the bottles. Since I don't have a car, I only occasionally get to the stores where it's available. There are some local sources of very good meat, but I don't often cook with meat.

I should, instead of eating it in a restaurant--but I suppose that could be said of anything I eat! .

We have a garden so a good bit of our food comes right from there. I can’t function in the garden very much anymore but I can still can things and in the last week we have canned 21 quarts of green beans and 10 quarts of tomatoes. I have plenty of tomato sauce and juice left from last year’s canning along with several quarts of homemade vegetable soup mix.

We have already frozen numerous containers of fresh corn and this year we even planted our own popcorn. The onions we have grown will last us well into the winter and I am eating cucumbers like they were going out of style. Unfortunately all of our meat products come from the grocery store but we have pretty good control over our veggies.

We do buy most of our pork products from a local family who process the meat from the slop eating pig to the final package and they are very reliable and extremely clean. The meats I buy come from California (at least the chicken and beef, the fish is mostly from Alaska and the venison is probably Canadian). Our dairy foods are local, for the most part, though lots of the cheese isn't.

Wisconsin does better cheese than California, in my opinion. I go to Farmer’s Market every Saturday to get the produce, so I know that is local. There's a guy who sells gouda cheese there, and that is local.As for the canned goods, I haven’t looked but I would guess some is from California (it is a very big state, after all) and some isn’t.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
