That sounds like an awful lot of homework for a little one. If you're concerned, you should talk to the teacher and review the school's homework policy.
To fully inform yourself of what needs to be covered in 1st grade, get yourself a copy of the syllabus for your state. It should outline learning objectives and give you a better idea of where your child should be up to.
Personally, I think an hour is too much after a full day at school. Little children get tired out by a long school day and another hour of being cooped up is too much in my opinion.
Definitely talk to the teacher about his / her reasons for all that homework and don't be afraid to voice your concerns. If the teacher isn't helpful, then talk to the Principal.
NB - I have one (long) hub on homework if you want more info. Lots of parents freak out and start doing it all themselves!
Its best to do it right away after a snack while they are still somewhat focused. And 1 hour is wayyy to much. 10-30 mins is a good amount.
Depending on the first grader, some reading would be good in addition to that.
It will Be best To have your first grader Do his/her Homework after a snack and take may 10 to 30 mins tops..
But that should be up to you depending how much you want him/her to remeber it just incase of a pop quiz.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
