Without a doubt: Christians. The Christian Crusades accounted for the largest loss of life ever known, all in the name of Christianity. The Christian Crusades were military campaigns sanctioned by the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages.
In 1095 A key distinction between the Crusades and other holy wars was that the authorization for the Crusades came directly from the Pope, who claimed to be working on behalf of Christ. A complex 200-year struggle ensued. The immediate goal was to guarantee pilgrims access to the holy sites in the Holy Land under Muslim control The Crusades also prompted the murder of thousands of Jews, known as the Rhineland massacres.
The anticlimax in this war was that it had the sanction of the Pope. The novelty of war otherwise would be to defend one’s territory or self-defense. In the Crusades, not only did the blood-shed get justified, it was also called ‘just’ and the Crusaders were reassured forgiveness for their sins and a place in Heaven in the event of death in war.
Crusaders often pillaged the countries through which they traveled, and contrary to their promises the leaders retained much of this territory. With non-combatants included, the western forces of the First Crusade alone may have contained as many as 100,000 Christians. An estimate of around 200,000 in all 9 campaigns seems close to the real number of causalities - just for Christians; nobody can guess how many Muslims and any others the Crusaders considered "infidels" were killed.
Crusaders couldn't tell the difference between a Muslim or an Arab, so they just killed them all indiscriminately. Since the participation in the Crusades was from many parts of Europe, the listing of only the leaders of the campaigns was recorded with the Pope. The volunteers were not listed anywhere, nor were the numbers of those who escaped from the scene of the campaign recorded.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
