No proselytizing please, this is a general question. I've read a few of his first books and found him quite amusing, very frank and open about his early years of non-belief in the subject. He realized that this was the path for him in life.
He does think and speak very very quickly as inspiration demands no doubt. Asked by goldie080 47 months ago Similar questions: psychic John Edward read books developing abilities Arts > Books.

While skilled at the art of hustling... I don't believe John Edward to be the real deal. He has been caught cheating before, and was exposed on Dateline. On Larry King Live (2001) when King asked Edward if he thought there would ever be proof of spirit contact, Edward responded by suggesting proof was unattainable, that only belief matters: ".. I think that to prove it is a personal thing.
It is like saying, prove God. If you have a belief system and you have faith, then there is nothing really more than that." But this is an attempt to insulate a position and to evade or shift the burden of proof, which is always on the claimant.
As Houdini emphatically stated, "It is not for us to prove the mediums are dishonest, it is for them to prove that they are honest. " A glaring tip-off to Edward would be that previous to his "shows" his people circulate the room, collecting information on the guests, including family tree information. They are then assigned seating.
The show is then "delayed" for "technical difficulties". O.Kay. I don't even need psychic ability to start to suspect that he is running a less than honest act here.
If you like him for his entertainment value, no problem. But for those who part with their money really believing, and then are misled by an act, it's unethical. Hustling the bereaved and vulnerable in exchange for false comfort is not a nice thing.
(You notice he always has "good" or "soft" news from beyond? ) I don't think that I've yet seen a medium or spirit guide that I felt proved the ability, although I think it would be very cool. Probably the most convincing would be Esther channeling Abraham, at least in my opinion, but I remain a skeptic as far as she is concerned, also.
What he does... anyone can do, with about an hour's training. The magazine Skeptic did an article on this, and explained how people who claim to talk to the dead actually pull it off. Michael Shermer, the editor of the magazine, did some readings for people and they said that he knew things no one could have guessed, except that is exactly what he did, he guessed and got it right.
You see, what John Edwards usually does is called a cold reading. Cold meaning that he hasn't spoken to the person beforehand. He asks very general questions, looking for 'hits' and when he gets them, he continues on that track.
People usually remember the hits and ignore the misses. You see, there is a reason they do that. He is playing with their emotions, and they want him to succeed, so they will give him cues and prompts so that he does succeed.
A lot of times those cues are involuntarily projected. Being able to read body language is a good talent if you want to be a psychic who speaks to the dead. A hot reading means he has spoken with the person before hand, and may have asked them specific questions about the passed away loved one.
Of course, you don't see that on his show. I don't need to read his books, because what he does isn't real. It's fake, and it also gives false hope to people who are suffering.
That's just cruel. In my opinion, people have empathic abilities, and thanks to something called mirror neurons in our brain, it is possible to imagine what someone is going through and to sympathize with them, even so far as feeling their pain, but any true psychic ability leaves me very skeptical. Of course, I am of the opinion that dead people don't communicate with the living, so being psychic is rather like being able to 'talk' to animals and have them talk back.
But that's a whole 'nuther charlatan. He, like all other psychics, is a fraud. Only he ranks in the realm of the Sylvia Brownes because he knows he’s a fraud and yet he still preys on those in tough emotional situations. Most of what John does is a technique called Cold Reading, which basically involves starting out by asking questions in rapid succession, generic questions like I'm seeing something in the chest or I see a name starting with a J, like James or John.
Then the people, to whom he is directing these questions, actually give him information. If you want to read more about cold reading just do a google search. And a decent write-up on Edward specifically can be found at: quinnell.us/natural/skepticism/psychics/... .
Each to their own belief. "WhereMyQ&AIs" has not read any of Mr. Edward's books. The question of John Edward's abilities or lack thereof is not one that "WhereMyQ&AIs" has any qualifications to answer.
Essentially, those answering the question have to judge for themselves. As for the question of whether "WhereMyQ&AIs" has read any of Mr. Edward's books, the response has to be listed as a clear no. Those books most likely have too much content that probably fails to make sense, and for all the readers who are convinced that their lives were changed for the better as a direct result of what he had to say in his writings, there are almost certainly bound to be other readers who could instead end up with the suspicion that they were had at the hands of spiritual hucksters, heavenly con artists, or charlatans of the soul.

I do think they are people who have this ability. They just prove their is a spiritual side to life that people should.. not ignore. I think Sylvia Browne makes up stuff.
John Edwards seem more real. The Bible says not to listen to them so I avoid them most of the time. I don't want to invite the darkside into my life..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
