How well do the trapdoor snails do with african and convict cichlids?

African and convict cichlids would most likely harass the trapdoor snails, so not likely a good match. A few snails per 10 gallons of water should manage a tank for algae, but it would be better not to overfeed the tank in the first place.

No snail is safe from cichlids ... even the calmer ones.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
