I would go to the doctor. I had something like that not too long ago, and waited a long time hoping it'd go away on it's own. It ended up being painful to have sex, but once I had the gel they gave me to treat it, I was fine after that.
Mine was both a yeast infection and a UTI that was easily treatable. The best advice is when you're fooling around just be sure to keep the area clean, and if you feel like you have a cut or something, wait a few days so it can heal up and then when you're back at it just take it slow so you don't reopen anything.
When in doubt, go to a doctor! You may have an STI, or even a pretty severe Urinary Tract Infection. Either way, you'd need antibiotics.
