I am in Calgary, Canada and flying to Istanbul, if I change the day/night pattern now, would that work for the jetlag there How many days?

The shortest flying time is 25 hours between Calgary and Istanbul. That's a tough one. Typically this is the big problem.

The 8 hour time difference will not be so hard providing you get sync'd up for when you arrive and get through the first day. You want to reverse the trip out. Plan it so that you arrive in sync when you land.

You'll want to spend the day awake and avoid sleeping until night time. Then you should be on track for the following days. The third day after you land will be a tough one - you will be sleepy in the mid afternoon. So if you arrive at 8am - they would have woken you up 3 hours prior to landing and fed you breakfast.

You should expect to have slept for at least 4 hours prior to that. It's unlikely that your trip is direct so determine when your enforced waking periods are. Find each leg and what times they intend to feed you.

Work backwards as described and then determine the day you take off - and plan on sleeping the night before or morning depending on when you depart. Its going to be boring. The airline might have in-seat movies - also get a few magazines and a book to avoid boredom.

Try to keep yourself interested when you're supposed to be awake. Remember to get that first day as full length as possible and you will do pretty well.

Find the time difference between two cities. How far is it?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
