MAKE SURE that your drain and supply pipes are compatible with the vanity you choose. If you buy a vanity with drawers and shelves inside, then you have to insure that the trap and supply pipes will clear those shelves and drawers, or else you'll be paying a plumber to tell you he can't install the new vanity. If you have a bottom shelf, say, that is 15 inches off the floor, and your drain pipe comes out of the wall at 18 inches off the floor, then there's no way you'll have room for a trap unless your plumber cuts open the wall and does major surgery on the waste pipe to get it 21 inches off the floor, or you cut out pieces of the new vanity to accommodate the pipes.

Same holds true if your pipes come up from the floor. Another thing that most people are unaware of: Bad water flow shortly after a new sink is installed usually means the aerator filter is clogged. Pipe work gets sediment moving in pipes, and of course it collects at the aerator, which is the filter on the water spout.

Unscrew the aerator and tap out all the sediment, rinse it (the water will flow fast and rough, but let it run for a while to clear), then screw it back on tight, making sure the rubber washers are seated properly.
