The audio / video out of the cable box connects to the audio / video input of the Toshiba.
Thank you. I think that's what I have done, but the tv doesn't recognize the vcr for some reason. I think I have to call Toshiba next.
Thanks so much for your input. Makes me feel less inept to think I might have done something right. :) hh521 3 months ago .
I so appreciate the help! Thanks. I only have the red, yellow, white cables, so will have to make do with those.
I do have the cable box connected to the tv with the hdmi cable. If I don't ahve another hdmi cable to connect vcr to tv, would the red, yellow and white ones do the job? I have connected with coaxial cable from dvd to cable box and dvd to tv.Do you think I also need the red, yellow, white ones?

Thanks. I'm still trying to get this whole thing up and running, but to no avail. The tv and cable work fine, but it's as if the vcr/dvd does not exist even though the cables are hooked up.
I'm calling Toshiba this afternoon and maybe they can give some insight. Thanks to everyone for trying to help. I'm sure it's some dumb little thing I'm not doing.

You are so kind to keep trying to help me. I tried phoning Toshiba, and although the DVD/VCR was built in October 2010, they will not give me any technical support because it's out of warranty. Of course, it is a brand new machine that had never been used or rebuilt or anything.
I can't even get the menu from the Toshiba to show up on the tv screen. I had had it all set up before we got the HDMI cable box, but now nothing seems to work. I'll see if I can access the source info.
Thanks again. Hh521 3 months ago .
Thank you. I am going to go hook up the tri colored cables from dvd to tv. We'll see how it works.
I think I had that configuration once during my travails with these machines, but maybe not. I appreciate your help. It does make sense to me, hope it makes sense to the machines.

It all depends if the Toshiba has a HDMI port on the back. If it does it goes like this. Connect the coax cable to the cable box.
The cable box should have an HDMI port on the back. If it does, you connect the cable box to the TV with a HDMI cable. You then take another HDMI cable and connect it from the back of the DVD to the television set.
The TV should have multiple HDMI ports. The key here is you should have HDMI ports on all your devices. If not, then you connect the coax to the cable box and then take another piece of coax and run it from the box to the television.
Then you should have a cable that came with the Toshiba that has audio in and out and video in and out. These are usually color coded, red, yellow, white and black. Connect the DVD with the cables and then connect the cables to the television.
The TV should have corresponding jacks on the side or bottom.

I would connect:cable box to dvd with a coax cabledvd to tv with coax cableif your cable box sends signal simultaneously through coax and hdmi, connect cable box to tv through hdmi too.

Wild guess why the tv doesn´t recognize the dvd player. You should keep the tv on channel 3. On one of the responses: you loose hd resolution when you go through the dvd.
That´s why you should have a hdmi cable from the cable box to the tv. On the other response: if your dvd has an output with video split on 3 colored cables (green, red and blue), use it instead. It provides better resolution that the yellow one.
I so appreciate the help! Thanks. I only have the red, yellow, white cables, so will have to make do with those.

No, you don´t need to connect the colored cables if you have the coax cable.

Dvd recorders have a source feature (to select from different input sources). Check if you have selected the right one.

I am trying to figure out how to connect these four pieces of equipment. First, there is the cable box from Comcast. It is the RNG110 model, and I subscribe to the HD service.
I have a Panasonic flat-screen TV mounted on the wall, and it connects to the RNG110 cable box via an HDMI cable that I have fed from the TV, through the wall, and down to the cable box on the entertainment stand. So the TV must connect to the cable box via the existing HDMI cable, no exceptions. Since the TV is on the wall, I cannot have any other wires connected to it since the tube running though the wall will not fit anything additional.
Next there is the combo VCR/DVD player, Toshiba SD-V296KU. I would like to be able to use it to play tapes and also record onto tape from the TV broadcast. I would also like to be able to play DVD's, so the quality of the connection is important.
I'm not sure if it's important, but the unit does not have an HDMI connection on the back panel. As far as coaxial cables, it only has one that is lableled "Digital Audio Out" for the DVD only. The Playstation 3 should be connected via an HDMI since I have noticed that it provides a much better picture than using the component cables.
I have read that I may need a receiver. I am not sure what type should be best or what kind of connections would be required. Any help would be appreciated.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
