This is a very tough assignment! Sorry to tell you this, but Syrian cuisine is ALREADY a "fusion" of all the cuisines of all the cultures that settled there, or occupied the territory: Arabic, Persian (Iranian), Iraqi, Lebanese, Turkish, Jordanian, Palestinian (meaning Jewish as well as Muslim) foods and dishes are all popular, everyday foods in Syria... The only idea I can think of is to take a recipe for Syrian or Lebanese tabbouleh (or tabouli) and substitute the 'durum wheat' burghul (aka 'bulgur' 'bulgar') with steamed and crushed brown Japanese or long-grain rice or, better still, try to make your own 'burghul with an ancient wheat such as whole "spelt" or "kamut", etc...then, you could substitute another fruit or a squash for the cucumber in the recipe, say, lightly-poached zucchini and/or use one-quarter of a normal white or brown onion, very finely-chopped, instead of 2-3 green onions. Then you could add a quarter teaspoon of ground 'allspice', (which I've been doing for years, and everyone who's tried it, loved it.) Swap out the over-used lemon juice with freshly-squeezed lime juice, add a few drops of hot chili-pepper sauce and name it after yourself and call it "XXX's Caribbean Tabbouleh"...That's one recipe sorted!
Hummus is a fabulous dip eaten everywhere in the mid-east and beyond and is generally made from garbanzo beans ("ceci", "chickpeas") but many brave souls have developed their own recipes using a variety of white beans, such as Lima beans, cannellini, even borlotti beans. You could give it a go! You could use smoked Hungarian paprika and cayenne pepper to top it, or make it with a little milk or butter (instead of olive oil), add some Italian herb-mix or Mexican spice mix, a few drops of Tabasco or other hot pepper sauce and, again, swap the typical lemon juice with lime juice.
Another idea is to swap half of the tahini (sesame paste) with peanut paste (or other nut-butter). Good luck!
Thanks a lot it actually helped nice ideas of foods.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
