Printing plate.1of1 need value The torch is not the Olympics; it's not like seeing the games, the athletes, the ceremonies. It's a flash of someone running by! I saw it for the last Olympics, and while it's neat to see, it's not really that big of deal.It's a great way to get people more excited about the Olympics, but when they are in China anyway it's not like its going to influence too many people to attend the actual event.

So, I don't understand why they just didn't cancel the whole thing. Instead it costs thousands and thousands of dollars in more security, and took the whole "glow" off the event. They should have canceled, with plenty of advance notice, when it was obvious what they could expect in San Francisco.

That way, no one would come for that fleeting "peek" and be so disappointed. Or, did they want the tourist money anyway? To hide the torch is ridiculous.

If you can't display it proudly and with dignity, don't do it at all. It's a shame for the American athletes that are participating in this event of a lifetime, to have it so overshadowed by the political aspects. But shouldn't the Olympic committee realized this when China was selected for the event.
