Wireless upgrades are probably not the answer... First of all, I hope that you understand that the bottleneck is not the wireless adapter itself. After all, even a Dynex (Best Buy house brand) 802.11g adapter should be able to communicate at 54Mbps, which is the 802.11g speed. That is much faster than most people currently have available in the way of Internet access.(DSL typically is 1.5Mbps while cable modems are typically somewhere between 5 and 7Mbps.

Only Verizon's FiOS is reaching toward 802.11g speeds with the highest speed available the last time I checked being 50Mbps. ) Having that in mind, I hope you can see that even the low-grade, nearly obsolete 802.11b (11Mbps) wireless adapters will still outpace what you probably have as far as Internet capacity. If you want to upgrade to speed up your in-house network, then the next step up from 802.11g is 802.11n, which operates at speeds up to 300Mbps.

There are many possible solutions that you could consider for this but all will require you to replace both the router and the adapters to achieve those higher speeds.
