I have a terrible odor in items I take from my house, I can taste the odor in food as well. What is it?

I have a terrible odor in items I take from my house, I can taste the odor in food as well. What is it? I know this sounds crazy...and the fact that it is so intangible only leads to my frustration.

I feel like the problem is most likely mold, because I live in an old house and of course there is some mold in the basement...and I'm sure it is coming straight up thru the vents. HOWEVER, the odor smells nothing like mold. It is a very sharp, chemically smell, very strange.

The only reason I thought it might be mold is because, I got friends to smell the items and they said they thought it was mold; one person said it smelled like old-lady house.? I'm so, so frustrated. The smell is so embarassing. I can smell it in my hair, on my clothes, but the worst is that I can taste in my food when I bring my lunch to work.

I reuse the bags from the grocery store(for my lunchbags), and they really seem to smell the worst of anything. You cannot smell the odor in the house at all, only when you take items out of the house? I am so overwhelmed and confused.

It could be... It could be mold. But it is really odd that you don’t smell it in the house. Do you smell it when you first come in the house at all?

There are several kids of gases that can actually numb your sense of smell after you get that first good whiff. You don't say if you own or rent, I am assuming you own, in which case I would hire a mold removal company to come and give you an estimate and see if they think that is the problem. This might be a place to start.

localrestoration.com/Georgia_Toxic_Black... You might also want to get your water tested, since you smell it in your hair and clothes, perhaps it is something growing in your pipes? It would be on you after you shower, and in your clothes from the laundry. But not necessarily make a smell in the house itself.

Good luck, that is a really odd problem.

This question was asked 46 months ago. My husband and I have a very similar problem in our home, and have had it for the 7 1/2 years that we have lived here. We have had all kinds of testing done, and have not been able to identify either the source of the odor or the odor itself.

I would love to hear if Valarie has ever found out what the odor is. We can certainly understand her feelings of confusion and being overwhelmed. It is a very real problem, and the worst thing is that houseguests take the odor home with them.It permeates all of their belongings - clothing, luggage, hairbrushes, etc. Within 6 hours of being in the house.

When we travel, the odor is in all of our belongings as well, and it permeates the air in the room where we stay, often lingering there for weeks after we leave. It is extremely embarrassing and frustrating. Over the past few years we have become more aware of it getting into food items that are exposed to the air. Though nothing has been identified to this point, we are concerned as to our safety.

We would greatly appreciate any help that anyone is able to give.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
