Yes, you will .com addresses like yahoo.com, hotmail.com stay on their respective websites and don't change when you change internet service providers.( ISP) .net addresses like sbcglobal.net, comcast.net, att.net etc.. are part of the ISP network, and close when you change providers. Make sure you think carefully what your SBC is attached to before closing it. Like if you have photos on Flickr, its the same log-in address, and you will lose access to all of your photos.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
