No, it's a floor issue. Is your floor on the ground level? What is below the floor?(wood, concrete, sub-flooring) Is there any hollow areas below the floor (basement or crawl space)?

Are the cracks in one area or scattered? Are the cracks in the tile only or also in the grout lines? How old is the floor and how old is the home?

Possible causes: Poor installation (hollows in the thinset used to attach the fllor to whatever is below it). If there is any hollow bellow the floor, it could be a sagging support beam. Water, the sub-floor could be expanding or warping, depending on it's composition.

Someone dropped a hard, heavy object on the floor (frozen turkey) or a hammer. Sources: Used to work in construction business..

Probably not........but just because there's no visible cracks outside doesn't preclude the fact that there could be foundation issues - they're not always real glaringly obvious. Since you don't mention whether they're random tiles that are cracked or there's actually a pattern to the cracks is hard to really determine though. Or is it the tile or grout that is actually cracking?

Sometimes if the tile wasn't put on an even wall there'll be a lateral pattern to the cracking. If it's not an exterior wall there's always a possibility that the wall has a little movement to it.

If they are concentrated near the wall of the sink it could be pressure from the backsplash and counter top. We had a couple of tiles crack and that is what it turned out to be. The counter top wasn't level which pushed the backsplash against the tiles and cracked them.

If you are noticing cracks in your walls, especially up near the ceilings, then it could be a foundation issue.

If so, then you may have a moisture problem, or it may have been an installation problem. Were they laid down on top of a cement substrate? Or were they just laid on top of plywood?

Never lay tiles directly on top of plywood, as the wood does not offer a strong, inflexible foundation for the tiles. So when the plywood flexes, the tiles crack. It is especially bad if the wood underlayment gets damp, since then the wood flexes very easily. Even mopping the floor might introduce water that you don't want, but I have seen a case where the cracking came from leaks in the plumbing, causing an incorrectly laid tile on plywood floor to get soft.

Tiles laid on top of a counter may also suffer this problem, since the counter may see moisture frequently near a sink.So it may depend upon how the tile was installed. Traditional is to lay down a layer of cement, but cement board is often used instead. Either should stay stiff enough, unless the beams underneath are very poor.

If the problem is with wall tiles cracking, I would look mainly to settling issues in your foundation. This may or may not be significant, depending upon the extent of the settling.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
