I have some Chinese Yuan (paper bills) from the 1940s. Can I use them when I go to China this year? My Dad saved them from when he was in WW2.

I don't think so These older yuan currencies experienced hyperinflation. If you were to convert them into present day yuan, you would probably not have very much monetary value to show for it. My hunch is that the collector's market would probably be a better way to go, especially if these banknotes are in good condition. It might be worthwhile doing some research to determine if you would get a better rate for them here in the US or in China when you take your trip.
Have a wonderful trip. It sounds exciting..
Not likely. They're not likely to be of any value. The govt of that time was overthrown by Mao.
There was also hyperinflation. They're likely to be worth several millionths of a cent. Maybe worth something to a bill collector?.
I'd think they'd be worth more if you didn't. I would be very surprised if Chinese money from 60 years ago wasn't worth more than face-value to some collector out there. Have you tried browsing Ebay or asking a collector of currency?
It might even be of interest to someone who collects Chinese or historical items rather than simply currency. If you've got a WW2 story to go with them, all the better! Sources: My Opinion .
2 Very funny, but I hear that bathroom facilities can be unusual in China.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
