I heared from local cell phone location that if you buy cell phone from amazon, you get only refub, not new. Is it true? Buying cell phone from amazon, no guarantee of getting your requested local area number and if you want to change the number again, it costs you $200 and you get re-furbished products.Is it true?

No They are simply trying to scare you away from getting what is possibly the best deal out there. I personally purchased three phones on Amazon over the years because of good selection and great rebates. I purchased one AT&T (just before they were purchased by Cingular) and two T-Mobile phones, they all were new, and while they came with preassigned numbers, porting my existing numbers required a single 5-minute phone call in each case, and a few hours of waiting for the change to take effect..

No. You don't get a local number unless you upgrade your existing service with cingular on amazon..... other than that amazon has no way of assigning the number because they are not the carrier. Thats why you have to go to the carrier to get your number ported because they are assigned a random number within your area code.

Its usually not that much to port your number though... and the phones are not refurbished .

I wouldn't buy from that dealer - they straight lied to your face. If the product on Amazon is labelled as refurbished - that is the only way you will receive refurbished goods. Granted if you purchase the phone from Amazon it will be locked to that provider, and you will not qualify for any incentives linked with new activation/contract.

If your provider is GSM (T-mobile or Cingular) the number is linked to your SIM. You put your SIM into the new phone and the number is now being used on the new phone. When buying on Amazon make sure to buy from your current provider.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
