I just saw a bear right out side of my window, like 3 feet from it. He was trying to steal my bird feeder. I threw?

If he gets the idea there is food in your house he might...he may have been driven up by the flood; but it is generally not a good idea to get them used to coming to your house for food.

Well, we see them often, but I have never seen them in the daylight, this close to the house. MorningDew 1 month ago .

As cat says, it might be best to hide the feeder for a few days.

Oh wow! A close encounter with a bear. He or she was looking for food.It was probably hungry.

They do say don't feed the bears because in some cases they do return looking for food. But I wouldn't worry about it to much.Do you know what kind of bear it was? .

It was a black bear, about 350 lbs. MorningDew 1 month ago .

That is too much bear for me. Do as Kat says take the feeder in the house in case the bear does return.

My brother in law worked for a furniture delivery company. One day he and a co-worker went to deliver some furniture to a woman whose house sits nestled back aways off the main road. Well they open the doors to the back of the truck so that they could start putting her furniture inside the house when out of no where a bear came running full speed charging at them while they were holding a recliner.

They spotted the bear and dropped the chair and ran inside the back of the truck and slammed the doors shut. The woman saw what happened and called the police and the game warden. When they got there the bear was still near the furniture truck.

Finally they tranquilized the bear which was about the same size.350 pounds. The real surprise came when the game warden told everybody that the bear was just a baby. The mother who was much larger was somewhere nearby.

Thank goodness the mother never showed up. But they took the baby and released him somewhere back into the woods unharmed. It had a happy ending for the bear of course. My brother in laws nerves were shot after that.

He had never been chased by a bear before.

Wow! Yes, I would have freaked out. That had to be very scary!

I read an article in the paper where a woman saw a bear carrying her dog and the only thing she could think of was to punch it in the snout. She did, and it ran away. Try punching it in the snout LOL.It will think you're a bad mamma-jamma!

.

Wow, she was brave, but I certainly would have tried to save my dog. They are not supposed to be aggressive here but I really don't want to get too close. I can be a bad mamma-jamma, lol!

If you think he has come up because of the flooding, as TLW suggests, then I would take the feeder down and put it inside for a few days. Remember, respect the bear! Do not mess with the bear.

:)Kat .

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. MorningDew 1 month ago .

Don't feed it! YIKES! He'll be back for more yummies, and yes, if hungry enough bears have been known to enter houses, not much can keep them out, they will go through any door.

Get one of those hand held air horns and give him a blast if he comes around again.

Sounds like a good investment! MorningDew 1 month ago .

You know the times and economy are bad when you have bears going around trying to steal a bird feeder so they can sell it on eBay to make a couple of bucks! .

Yes, times are definitely bad, lol! MorningDew 1 month ago .

Feeding the bear was a mistake. The bear will remember that there is food next to your house and will come back, then he might smell more food inside and that could lead him to break in. I would go look for party poppers or those snap-pop whatsits and use them the next time you see a bear.

Of course be safe! My place backs up to logging territory and bears come into my back yard every so often but I have yet to see them. I've seen their scat and had my chicken-run knocked down; luckily the coup is bear proof, an eye sore built like a bunker but gets the job done.

I've smelled one while I was out walking in the Green Diamond/Simpson land. The bear's must and the smell of fresh scat coated my lungs and lingered in my nostrils, the hair on the back of my neck prickled so bad I felt like I had got it caught on an electric fence, and my nerves griped me by my shoulders and shook me hard, God I knew he was close! Yet I never saw a glimpse.

I've seen plenty of bears in my time and was glad to not have met that one.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
