I sure hope so The Trek movies are a lot of fun (yes, even the "bad" ones ), but the TV shows are my favorite, because it's a new adventure every week. I have to admit, all the series have had their good and bad shows, but overall, they've been a lot of fun, and a lot of hours of fun! A movie is only a couple hours tops, a season of shows gives you a lot more time with the characters.
I was also pretty disappointed with Enterprise. It seemed like a great thing for Trek fans, but it turned out to be kind of a stinker. I thought it had a lot of potential, but it never really lived up to it, and it was canceled before they could get their act together and make it good.
Unfortunately, that works against us for the possibility of a new series in the immediate future. TV execs are going to have the lack of success fresh in their minds, so it might make them hesitant to get behind another Star Trek show. I think that ultimately, the movie's success will determine how soon we'll see another Star Trek show.
If the movie is a blockbuster, the stations will want to get on the bandwagon and will start working on a new show. If the movie doesn't do so well, it will be more of an uphill battle. So keep that in mind, if you want a new Star Trek series, make sure all your friends go to the movie when it comes out!

Absolutely! However.... It may be a while before we see it again. The poor performance of Enterprise has the network a bit gunshy.
The long and short of it is there are too many fans for it not to return at some point. The recent success of the "Reimagined" series, "Battlestar Galactica", has shown how an old fan favorite can be reintroduced in such a way as to encourage and welcome new viewers while keeping the old ones happy. The funny thing about all this is that in 2004, J Michael Straczinsky (creator of Babylon 5) and Bryce Zabel approached Paramount with an idea for a reimagined Star Trek series, using the original series as the basis but updating and refreshing it.
This was about the time of the Battlestar Galactica pilot and looong before JJ Abrams. A copy of the written proposal is posted online at: http://bztv.typepad.com/newsviews/files/ST2004Reboot.pdf My personal opinion is that Abrams is avoiding big name stars, like Matt Damon (who was an early favorite for the role of Kirk), just in case there is a groundswell to move it back to television. Matt Damon will most likely not do a weekly series TV show so casting him in the movie would mean having to recast for TV and hurt the momentum of a successful movie transition.
Notice the one role (Spock) that has been announced is played by a TV actor. Sources: my opinions and http://bztv.typepad.com/newsviews/files/ST2004Reboot.pdf .
Yes I do I do think that sometime in the future there will be a new Star Trek series, but I don't think it will be anytime soon. They really have damaged the franchise and need it to take a break to build excitement and momentum for a new show. The problem is that Star Trek, although groundbreaking television and quite fun, is really limited by its formula and mission as compared to the broader SF world.
I do love the show, so don't get me wrong, but having so much history and a strong canon of material, there are boundaries that any story really needs to fit into. Writers are limited to these themes and boundaries, unless they enter some parallel world or far far distant quadrant. And even then they still need to follow the structure of the themes and guidelines of Roddenberry's universe.
You can't break the rich history created over the years, and that can be limiting. This is why the last couple of series did poorly. They were formulaic, and the characters were generally poor and the audience was looking for more than they have seen before.
They did try to push the boundaries, but just could not get the series to work well (until the last season, but by then it was too late). So time away from the series, some fresh blood, and a new audience will bring the opportunity to have the series again all re-energized and new. In a few more years though..
Very Likely Given the fan base that Star Trek has had and continues to have, I think it is very likely that we will see more of it. That being said, I think that for a new show to be a success they need to get people involved who can present the future in an optimistic point of view similar to what we saw in the original series and in Next Generation. There are plenty of science fiction shows where the main characters are the underdogs fighting the evil system.
We don't need another series where the Federation goes off into another never ending war. I would prefer to see a series where things are good for the Federation, but the individual characters have problems that they must face, even within that rosy view of the future. I prefer episodes that stay away from an attempt to make a political statement and focus on things that I can identify with.
If I were one of the decision makers, I think I would be looking at building a show around either Star Fleet Headquarters and Star Fleet Academy or moving forward and doing a show based around the time travelers of the future. Then at some point, I think we need another show based around a ship, but not right now.
It is very doubtful, but we can always hope. Paramount recently sold off a ton of costumes, props, and other items at several auctions. Studios normally hang on to this stuff for use in future projects, but only if those projects are in the forseable future.
With the cancellation of Enterprise, and no concrete plans for future Star Trek television series, the studio sold off everything. I am not an insider or anything, but these sales pretty much closes the door to new Star Trek TV shows. The current series' are still in syndication on various channels, which is filling the need for now.
I hope this helps.
