I need help remembering the title of a Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book?

I need help remembering the title of a Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book. I read this book 15-20 years ago. Basically there were a few groups of humans on some type of space ship.

Some of them didn't know it was a ship. There were aliens on the ship also, and there were described as looking like big furry spiders, but instead of speaking with words the spiders talked with a "rainbow of colors" across their head. Only the humans that knew they were on a ship actually lived with the spiders.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
