I need to get the network security key on the main computer for the wireless internet connection to work on my laptop?

I need to get the network security key on the main computer for the wireless internet connection to work on my laptop... but I don't know it! Whatever the key is, it's 5-13 characters long or 10-26 characters long using digits 0-9 and letters A-F. Can you help me find the network security key on the main computer?

You couldn't, shouldn't, and better not...... Maybe I'm assuming too much from your question and the clarifications, but here are some thoughts:First, it seems that you might be a little unfamiliar with wireless networking, so you probably won't be able to. There is no main computer in a wireless network. There is a wireless access point (WAP) that is connected to the network that routes and manages all wireless connections.

That device holds the security key. Any computers that connect to the network wirelessly store a copy of the key. The local copy of the key is typically encrypted in some way.

Getting at that local copy of the key will probably require circumventing the computer's security or utilizing an application to monitor network traffic and exploit weaknesses in the security protocols. These protocols were listed in one of the clarifications above and you seemed unsure of them. Second, if you have legitimate access to the network in question, you should not need to decipher the key from a computer.

The network owner can and should provide you with the key if you ask for it. If you can't ask for it, then chances are you don't have legitimate access. Attempting to connect to a secure network that you don't have legitimate access for is, in my opinion, unethical.

I don't think this community should be helping people violate other people's privacy. Third, actually accessing a computer through a WAP that does not belong to you and that you have not been given permission to access is illegal in some states. It is actually a 3rd degree felony in Florida.

See here:money.cnn.com/2005/08/08/technology/pers... you probably won't be, you could be arrested for breaking the law. If I have, in anyway, misinterpreted your question, then I do apologize.

I feel strongly about security, fair use, and privacy. If you have a legitimate reason for attempting what you're asking, then please message me and I would be happy to give you some suggestions on how to go about getting your laptop on the wireless network. It's not on the 'main' computer Its stored in the router itself. When the network was set up, your "main" computer was used to run Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you use) and you logged into the router. Depending on which brand/model you have the IP address, default userid and default password will differ.

For instance, with a Linksys router you would enter 192.168.1.1 in your browser, and when the login dialog appears, enter ’admin’ as the userid and leave the password blank. On my Linksys, I would then go to the Wireless tab and then the Wireless Security sub-tab. I happen to used ’WPA Personal’ security, and my router’s WPA shared key in in full ascii so I can use 0-9, a-z and A-Z.It also displays the value.

From your description of the key, you seem to require the key in hexadecimal notation (each character is expressed as a number from 0-255, with two digits per character e.g. 0A 9F 78). Once you get into your router and get to the appropriate screen, you should be able to write this down; you might even be able to switch it to ascii, for easier entry. If not, just set up a new key.

Just make sure your security modes match on both the router and the laptop - WPA is better than WEP. For more accurate responses, please try to provide more information in your question in future. Your responses would have been much better if you just included the router brand/model.

Sorry, but you'll have to ask .. Happy New Year! Sorry, Phez, but for this you'll have to ask the Network Guys or Gals who manage the network. That's a security thing, and guess what?

It's suppose to be very difficult! .

It would be alot easier if you have acces to the router. If you have access to the router, plug in with a patch cable (ethernet cord), login to it through a browser, and copy and paste the key into a text file.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
