One of the best ways to improve your writing is to read more. Find a novel, read the New York Times, read anything that interests you as long as it is well written it will help you. Being in Hong Kong it may be more difficult because you aren't surrounded by English content all day, but I'm sure you can still find some decent English books and magazines that you can read.
The more you read the more natural English writing will come to you as you learn how to incorporate a wider vocabulary and borrow phrases and styles from what you read.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
