When you are young, you can change careers several times. Do it when you are young though. It gets harder and more expensive as time goes by.By going into Mental Health first you will get a good idea of what a section of civilian life is like and it is quite an eye opener.

You learn a lot about people in general and what makes them tick or not tick. You can also use it if you decide to go military. But not the other way around.

You may get a guaranteed job when you sign the contract, depending on your ASVAB scores and other qualifications, but more likely you'll have to go in with an open category of jobs, only being guaranteed that you'll get one of the jobs in that category and won't find out what you'll be doing for the next 4 - 6 years until about the 6th week of basic training.
