I want to sell my laptop for parts but there is no picture. How can I get my personal stuff off the computer|? Most of the things on it are minor but there is some banking on it.

How would I get it off without being able to see the screen? Everything else works fine? Or is it too risky.

How easy is it for someone to get my password? And what would I ask for it? It's high end toshiba and about 4-5 years old with a brand new harddrive and lots of expensive programs.

The easy way is to plug your laptop into another monitor and reformat the hard drive to remove your information. I would always remove personal information from any computer for which I am thinking of disposing. To hook up the monitor, I would suggest borrowing a monitor from a friend.

The monitor cable plugs into the back of the laptop. Once you boot the computer you can usually activate the external monitor by holding the alt or fn key on the laptop and hitting the appropriate function key, usually marked with an icon of a monitor. You then can do whatever you need to your computer.

You may consider backing up the data at this point, especially if you have a CD Writer or memory stick. Most have some sort of video connector on back for hooking up to a real monitor or TV. If so I'd then reformat the drive before selling (and not a "quick" format, but a full format). Or try booting from the Windows cd or Restore CD that came with the laptop and doing a complete reinstall.

I can't imagine that the laptop itself has much value, in 4-5 years the tecnology has changed too much. You might do better to sell the software separately, if you own full versions and have the install cd's (assuming its not OEM software that will only work on this laptop). Same for the hard drive.

I bet you could sell the hard and dvd drives separately on Ebay. Maybe the memory too. If the battery is new, that would be worth trying to sell.

Sorry to be a downer gh end 4-5 years ago means it is not worth much today. I would not risk selling the hard drive as it is easy to get info from it even after you erase it. Especially banking info.

The expensive programs you speak of I assume you have disks for so sell those. The rest of the PC is probably junk, you could try to sell some of the parts on Ebay if someone wants to upgrade but you won't get much for them. Sorry.

Lap tops can use external monitors, so if you have an external monitor from a desktop computer or if you have a friend who will let you use thiers you can hook it up via a monitor port on the back of your computer and use it this way. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
