Because as long as it has the file, it will be easy. Or, more like it would be easy, but you have an iPod. If you are looking to copy music over, you can try YamiPod, which you can use to move music after hooking up your iPod to iTunes only once.
If you are talking about moving the information, then I don't know how you would do that easily.
This is what I do. In the Preferences, Advanced, change the location to store the MP3s on your external drive. Then, I copy the iTunes folder from the My Music on my local pc and then overwrite the iTunes folder on my laptop's My Music folder.
You also have to be sure that your external drive has the same Letter on both machines. This way your only syncing the XML.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
