You might check to see if you have a local branch of the Civil Air Patrol near you. It's a great way to get an idea of what being in the military is like, with no real commitment. It's for 12-19 year olds.

Yes--there are other military youth groups, like the Navy Sea Cadets. My daughter was involved with that for several years and I would highly recommend it. She was able to go to military bases around the country for training and I think developed good leadership skills due to it.
But she didn't end up in the Navy! .
Not that different from any other military: boot camp consists of 9 weeks of marching and learning key skills such as shooting a gun, self-defense, military structure, whom to salute (everyone), and how to march. You'll have officers over you who'll be obtuse, thick-headed, and insensitive and there won't be a thing you can do about it except what he (or she) just told you to do. You'll get yelled at often and praised almost never.
If you are able to keep your mouth shut, you'll find you're learning important skills that later employers will appreciate your having. Meanwhile, college educations can be free and can lead to officer school so you can end up telling others what to do. As for Air Force, you'll be on planes, but you most likely will not be flying them.
On the other hand, aircraft engine mechanics are in demand. But get used to doing your bathroom things surrounded by others.
Thanks! Ill keep all that in mind ... are there certain requirements for joining the Air Force? Hannahbananabutt 3 months ago .

Poppet gave you excellent advice. You don't mention what your career goals are. They should match pretty closely the mission/careers of the Air Force.
Otherwise, putting up with the differences from civilian life (intense discipline, intense athletics, deployment, multi-year commitments, life-threatening job, etc. ) may not be worth it. Joining the Air Force starts with Basic Training. It is 8 or 9 weeks of athletics, discipline, and dirt. You will learn AF history, regulations, and traditions.
After graduation, you start training in your assigned career field. You may get to select or narrow down this career field when you sign up in the recruiter's office, but maybe not. After career training, you are assigned to a base.
You may get to submit your preferences of which base you would like to be stationed, but it is not know how closely the Air Force considers those requests before making assignments. You will move from base to base every 3 or 4 years. You will be evaluated on your job performance every year, and those evaluations will determine if/when you are promoted to higher ranks.
You will take physical fitness tests every year, and all of your medical costs are covered. After 20 years, you can retire, and receive pension and medical benefits right then and not wait until you are in your 60's. How is that for a 20 year career in 2 paragraphs?
You should talk to a recruiter and others already enlisted in the Air Force. It can be a rewarding career, but it is not for everyone. I hope this helps.
I ask you to pray for one of my moms friends... ive never met her and I don't know what she looks like, but I just had the urge to pray. Shes been battling breast cancer for probably almost 2 years now, and its gotten to the point where chemo cant do anything and the cancer has spread uncontrollably. Please pray for her family as they go through this.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
