" I think the term should read "iced tea" but I've seen lots of references to "ice tea. " What's your final verdict? Asked by Tigerpaws 45 months ago Similar questions: Ice Tea Iced Education & Reference.
Iced Tea If it were tea made from ice, then it would be ice tea. It is not. It is tea made from tea leaves, the final tea product is then put over ice or is "iced", making it "iced tea".
Of course, one could make any arugment they wanted, after all ice cream isn’t cream made with ice, but of course no one called it iced cream and even if they did, that would be wrong too as it’s not cream put over ice. It’s really frozen cream, but I suppose you do freeze the ice cream batter, turning the batter into a form of ice made out of cream, and therefore ice cream is probably appropriate. So I suppose if you took tea and froze it, making a form of ice made out of tea, then you could call it ice tea as well.
Now, if you’re into hardcore gangsta rap (and aren’t we all), you can’t do much better than Ice-T’s "OG" album. Well, maybe if you count his work with the harcord band Body Count, but I digress. I like iced tea, but most restaurants make it way too stong, don't you think?
I usually order a glass of water and a glass of tea and drink out of both straws simultaneously till half of each glass is gone, then I pour the water into the tea glass (that way they'll offer me more water and not more tea, which is the last thing I need). I hate to pay $2.29 for a glass of tea as well, they just soaked a 5 cent teabag in some water, and not only that, it could be 10 times weaker than they serve it and I'd still drink it. To be honest, some times what I'll do is places where you can serve yourself a beverage, I'll get a glass of water, I'll fill it 95% to the top and just put a splash of tea on the top when no one's looking.
That's fine by me. Of course, most the time I do pay for the tea, I might do this one out of every 3 or 4 times I visit a place that way overcharges for their iced tea then makes it so strong that I'm mostly drinking water anyway. I figure it all works out..
Iced Definitely iced. "Ice tea" reads as though you're referring to a tea made out of ice. I can understand the confusion.
When you speak the words "iced tea" the D isn't enunciated since the D and subsequent T have such similar sounds. It sounds like you're saying "ice tea. " So even though you're absolutely right, I wouldn't get too worked up over it.
I used to complain about just this sort of thing until all my friends started considering banding together and staging an intervention. I still correct menus (and just about everything else) but I've learned to keep it bottled up inside where it belongs. But if you get to complain about ice tea, then I get to crab about "duck tape."
If one is not specifically referring to the Duck brand of duct tape, writing "duck tape" is incorrect. Unless, of course, you're unfortunate enough to have a duck that just won't stick. MidwestPurgatory's Recommendations Vinyl Squeezable Sticky Duck I guess Amazon really does have everything!.

The norm is "iced tea". A google search shows 15 million results for "iced tea" and only 10.4 million for "ce tea" but some of these actually are referring to things other than iced tea, such as the rapper, or something actually called "ice tea" which is tea (that can be served hot) whose leaves have frozen. I run RateTea.net and we only use the term Iced Tea on our website, because it is the proper and more accurate term:ratetea.net/topic/iced-tea/5/"Iced" is used because the tea is chilled or poured over ice...it is not "ice" tea because the tea itself is not made out of ice or brewed with ice.Net/topic/iced-tea/5.
