Depends what country you live in and what visa requirements you might have to meet. If you live in the UK here are a couple of links to really good places to train meditation and mindful living. throssel.org.uk/ (Soto Zen)forestsangha.org/ (Theravada)Best wishes,Richard.
If you need to meet budhist monks you can visit to Srilanka. They have so many budhist temples there. They are kind of conservative.
You can even visit to Tibet. But if you are seeking for filmy type monks, I have no clue.
Honestly - and please don't let this discourage you, as it's a good thing - peace of mind comes from where you are internally, not where you are externally. When you can develop internal peace of mind, anywhere you are is your monastery. I would suggest trying mindfulness practice to see if that helps with your peace of mind, especially if you are able to find a teacher in your area versed in mindfulness.

Chinese Buddhist monks have been traditionally and stereotypically linked with the practice of the Chinese martial arts or Kung fu, and monks are frequently important characters in martial arts films. This association is focused around the Shaolin Monastery. The Buddhist monk Bodhidharma, traditionally credited as the founder of Zen Buddhism in China, is also claimed to have introduced Kalaripayattu (which later evolved into Kung Fu) to the country.
This latter claim has however been a source of much controversy (see Bodhidharma, the martial arts, and the disputed India connection) One more feature about the Chinese Buddhist monks is that they practice the burning marks on their scalp, finger or part of the skin on their anterior side of the forearm with incense as a sign of ordination. In Thailand and Burma, it is common for boys to spend some time living as a monk in a monastery. Most stay for only a few years and then leave, but a number continue on in the ascetic life for the rest of their lives.
In Mongolia during the 1920s, there were about 110,000 monks, including children, who made up about one-third of the male population,6 many of whom were killed in the purges of Choibalsan. One of the most intense forms of Asceticism can be found in Jainism, one of the world's oldest religions. Jainism encourages fasting, yoga practices, meditation in difficult postures, and other austerities.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
