If christians want gay marriage outlawed because it isnt biblical.... why not push to de-legalize divorce?

Many gays and lesbians see it as a civil rights issue. You can argue this from several perspectives. As someone who is pretty libertarian--although I have seen its limits on the horizon--I would ask where does the state (government) have the right to define a marriage?

I can see where you could declare all "marriages" are civil unions as they are a specialized contract where people agree to share property, lives, children, etc. Society has a valid interest in supporting the effective execution of contracts, including any civil unions. However, marriage is a spiritual relationship usually with religious overtones. That, I believe, should be left up to religious entities to decide how those marriages are handled and not government, sorry Rick Perry:(.

That being said, some religious groups do honor gay marriages and others don't. If you are gay or lesbian and want to marry your SO, find a religious group, church, temple, etc that will do it. Otherwise, allow for all marriages to be civil unions for the purposes of the state.

Marriage as a legal institution of the USA and states governments carries a substantial number of implied consequences for the marital partners. It is illegal pursuant to the First Amendment of the USA constitutions to define any legal institution or relationship through any sort of religious definitions. This must therefore include marriage.

Therefore prohibiting people from marrying based on gender constitutes illegal gender discrimination and must properly be rejected according to the same reasoning as the race criteria were rejected under "Loving v West Virginia" and the like. -- Of course, pursuant to that same First Amendment, any given religious institution must remain free to define marriage for its own members according to its own religious criteria -- including the prohibition of same-gender marriage.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
