Congratulations on having a good and solid goal at your young age. That is admirable. Allow me to give you a brief description of my efforts to accomplish what you are attempting.

I began the study of the organ when I was six. I studied with a highly qualified teacher all through high school. When I was your age my goal was to become one of the organists for the US Naval Academy Chapel, one of the loftiest goals to which an organist can aspire.

All through elementary, middle, and high school I also studied the trombone (in order to part of the school's music program). When I was a senior in high school I was honored to perform with the US Navy Band at a concert given in my area. One student from each of the high schools was selected for this privilege.

While I was among the many who were not successful in joining the military band, allow me to share what I learned. Right now you should be conducting yourself as though your goal were to attend a top music conservatory. That means lessons with a highly qualified professional teacher.

You should have the goals of All County and All State competitions in mind when they come up. The same for Regional and National competitions. You should aspire to all the honors groups in your schools from now until graduation.

While it is too soon to talk to an Air Force recruiter, it is not too soon to be gathering information. When you get to ninth grade begin a dialogue with your student counselor. For now visit the Air Force Band site listed below and familiarize yourself with the requirements.

While a college degree is not required for the Band, most of your competition will be degreed. People continue to apply for the positions into their thirties. It's that good of a job!

You should keep your mind open to all branches of the military. They all offer the most coveted positions for professional musicians. If you do not already do so, begin your study of music theory and begin piano lessons.

No matter what you play you will need to know your way around a piano. Visit the band site and check out the FAQ and the audition requirements to get an idea of the caliber on music you will be playing. That is the level you must shoot for.

Also read about the military requirements. You will have to pass basic training, carry a gun, serve as a soldier if needed, and many other responsibilities. While I didn't make it into the Navy Band because of health reasons, I did manage to attend one of our nation's prestigious music schools and spend my life as a professional musician.

Good luck. You have time ahead of you, but you do not want to waste any of it. http://www.usafband.af.mil/aboutus/caree...

I would practice for at least half an hour a day. If it is your true passion, I recommend an hour a day. :).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
