If I read the Bible, does that make me a Christian. Since I also read the Qur'an, I must also be part Islam?

Well, to some extent. That is, in both cases I was trying to understand what it had to say, and considering how much of it I could agree with. No, I didn't spend an equal amount of time.

For one thing, the Qur'an is a much smaller quantity of material. For another, there's a lot of it that is painfully repetitious. Same stories alluded to over and over.

For another, the Qur'an repeatedly says that Christians believe things they don't, and had formally decided mainstream Christianity didn't accept over a century before Muhammad started to write the Qur'an. That makes it a little hard to take. For another, it became clear as I read that I was not going to fully comprehend Islam by reading the Qur'an.

That was a problem that didn't confront me with the Bible, because I had plenty of other background to draw on in Christian sources. What I'd really like to do is tackle it again, but with accompanying sources that included hadith material and linked both Qur'an and hadith to contextually related aspects of Muhammad's biography. Because the fact is that I learned a great deal about Islam from a Muslim-produced multi-part television biography of Muhammad I couldn't learn from just reading the Qur'an.

I am thinking, also, of going back through the chapter on Islam in Sam Harris' atheist manifesto, "The End of Faith," with the aim of establishing that his treatment of the Qur'an is just as badly out of context and loaded with miscomprehension as his treatment of the Bible.

I stopped reading it when I found the phrase like the Christians do! Because in the time of Jesus it was called the way! It wasn't called Christians until the Constantine decretals which proves conclusively that the Quran was manufactured after that time!

Yet Islam claims its the earliest written. Sorry that dosent jive.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
