If I tell tragic story - happy ending about distant relative and change names do I need permission?

With having the names changed in the story, you should be fine telling about it.

I agree, as long as you do not use their names, I don't think there could be a problem.

I don't really know, but I think there could be a problem if the person can point to enough details to say, "That's me, and you owe me. " I'm sure there's plenty of lawyers that would jump on it if you made money with the story. If you don't make money with the story, there's not much for a lawyer to go after, and that's their bottom line.

Or I suppose a person could sue you for libel if they say it's untrue. I'd ask a lawyer if I were you if think those problems could arise. Or look on legal forums elsewhere, I'm sure it's been asked before.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
